Glasgow headlines 8 November: First Bus driver who was sacked after fatally running someone over has been hired for a similar role in another company

A bus driver from who was sacked for running over a woman and killing her at Buchanan bus station in 2021 has been hired for a similar role at another company.

George McInally was working for First Bus when the incident happened which saw 71-year-old Rosanne McLaughlan die from serious head injuries after attempting to cross the road.

McInally was fired from the company and is currently on bail.

Next up, First Bus drivers in Glasgow have voted to strike concerning a pay dispute.

Unite the union said 99 percent of members voted in favour of the action with a 77 percent turnout.

Drivers previously rejected a pay offer, saying it fell below the pay levels of other drivers in the group’s other UK operations.

And in other news, Marks and Spencers are set to open a new store in the city after receiving approval from Glasgow City Council.

The new premise, which will be a food hall, will be situated on the grounds of the former Victoria Infirmary in the Southside.
