Hong Kong mulls national security law
Hong Kong's Chief Executive John Lee announces plans for the city to establish its own national security law in 2024, following Beijing's imposition of sweeping legislation in 2020 to suppress dissent. In 2019, massive pro-democracy protests drew hundreds of thousands to the streets, demanding increased freedoms and autonomy from mainland China.
