A chip shop has discovered what they believe to be one of the UK's biggest spuds - that looks like a hippopotamus.

Archie's Fish and Chip Shop took to social media to show off the whopper of a potato - they say resembles a seal or a hippo.

Owners Natalia Sidorova, 50, and Alexander Povalyaev, 42, revealed the huge potato was delivered in bag from a supplier.

Employee Roni Gill, 23, said: "We went to cut our chips to fry and this is one of the potatoes that came out of our bags."

The potato weighs just over two kilograms and measures 10x6 inches.

The chippy, in Minster-in-Thanet, Kent, has been hosting a guessing game for customers and intend to keep the spud until Saturday.

Natalia said: "We believe that is the one of the big potatoes in the UK.

"We have decided to keep it till Saturday (October 7) and let our customers guess how heavy it is.

"Then we will clean it and will make chips and also will ask our customers to guess how many portions we will get from it."

The couple, who are originally from Russia, said it was the biggest potato they have ever come across in nearly ten years of working in the chippy.

They still don't know how many portions the potato will yield - but Alexander speculated it could be "two medium portions".

The world record for the biggest potato is held by Nottinghamshire vegetable grower, Peter Glazebrook for a spud weighing 4.98 kg.

The footage was captured on September 4.
