Government considers student ombudsman to crack down on university sexual assaults

Tertiary students could soon have a new watchdog holding universities to account with education ministers looking at establishing a national, independent student ombudsman. The latest national student safety survey, undertaken during COVID-19 lockdowns shows 14,300 students are subjected to sexual violence in university settings a year an average of 275 a week.
