Firefighters rushed to the Gallowgate to tackle a blaze at a nursery school building.

Six appliances were called to the derelict Elba Lane Nursery on the evening of 3 October.

Local residents were urged to close their windows while drivers were advised to seek alternative routes.

Next, a man who racially abused former Scotland cricketer Majid Haq was fined £400 at Greenock Sheriff Court.

Ronnie McGregor was overheard using a slur to Haq directly during a match in August.

The 64-year-old did plead guilty and has received a lifetime ban from Cricket Scotland.

And in other news, Scotland’s only ski slope, Snow Factor at Braehead, is closing permanently after its operator went into liquidation.

The company who took the site on made the decision over financial, safety and environmental concerns.
