It was hard not to get caught in a pothole at the Listen Out festival in Sydney yesterday. This year's tour was the highest-attended tour the festival's history, with nearly 30,000 people in Sydney following shows Adelaide, Brisbane, Perth and Melbourne. There is a real appetite for festivals, although many are late. Dark Mofo, Falls Festival and This That festivals have all suffered cancellations. Vv Pete was the opening act of the Listen Out festival. Rapper Vv Pete was the opening act at Sydney's Centennial Park. The 22-year-old actor spoke to ABC News backstage after his performance. Pete has been writing music since the age of nine and performing since the fifth grade of school, but things could have turned out very differently for him. “I always wanted to be a scientist,” Pete said. Towards the end of performance, he called out to his proud mother on stage, who was waiting on the sidelines and always by side. "When I first told my family that I was going to be an artist, most people looked down on me, but the only person who stood by me was my mother," he said. “It's like he knew I would have a bright future. “My whole family obviously supports now, but my mom has always been the kind of person who… gave me free will and let be myself, and I respect her so much.” Doors opened at 12pm and access pitch was not available any earlier and Pete was scheduled to take the stage from 12.05pm, meaning even most dedicat
