First asteroid samples land on Earth after release from spacecraft
NASA's asteroid samples successfully landed in the Utah desert after a seven-year journey, with the sample capsule released during a flyby of Earth and landing a few minutes early. The capsule's parachute opened higher than expected at 20,000 feet, but the samples remained uncontaminated and were quickly placed in a clean room at the Defense Department's Utah Test and Training Range.
