People in northern Taiwan release flaming water lanterns to invite ancestors and those who perished at sea to come ashore and feast during Hungry Ghost Month. Filled with joss papers, the colourful lanterns, which resemble an ancient Chinese guesthouse, are an invitation to all underworld spirits to enter the earthly realm.
