If passed, the Voice to Parliament referendum will enshrine a permanent body to make representations on behalf of Indigenous people to parliament and the government. Multiple similar bodies have existed under legislation in the past before being abolished. Nations Leader David Littleproud says the voice risks repeating the mistakes of the past.
