Publix grocery stores are posting signs saying "No pets allowed" at their nearly 1,400 locations across the Southeast region, which includes 876 stores in Florida and 214 stores in Georgia. The signs cite federal law indicating that only service animals are permitted inside grocery stores. Service animals cannot ride in shopping carts or wheelchair baskets within the store. Emotional support animals are also banned from Publix grocery stores. The company says any customers who bring emotional support animals into stores will be escorted out.
