Trump Alleges "REDICULOUS" Freedom of Speech Constraints in Federal Case

Former President Donald Trump plans to request that D.C. District Judge Tanya Chutkan, the federal judge overseeing the case related to his alleged attempt to subvert the 2020 presidential election recuse herself as well as seek a change of venue for the trial. In an all-caps rant on Truth Social Sunday morning, Trump declared, “THERE IS NO WAY I CAN GET A FAIR TRIAL WITH THE JUDGE ‘ASSIGNED’ TO THE REDICULOUS FREEDOM OF SPEECH/FAIR ELECTIONS CASE." Chutkan, appointed by former President Obama, has given sentences to Jan. 6 Capitol riot defendants more severe than the DOJ's recommendations. Previously, Trump had suggested that a fair trial would be "impossible" in Washington, D.C., and proposed moving the proceedings to a nearby state like West Virginia, which he deemed more politically unbiased. However, federal judges in D.C. have repeatedly rejected similar arguments from other Jan. 6 defendants who sought venue changes based on the city's perceived liberal leanings.
