Britain needs to guard against more assassination attempts against MPs and other high profile figures, a senior Cabinet minister warned on Thursday.Deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden issued the warning as the Government published a new dossier on the risks facing the country. The new threats register published by the Cabinet Office put such an attack as among the most “likely” risks facing the country.Mr Dowden told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme: “We rely on our colleagues across the security agencies and the police to undertake this assessment.“Unfortunately if you look at the experience that we have had so far, since I entered Parliament in 2015, sadly it has been the case that a number of politicians have faced frankly assassinations, they have lost their lives.“So it is something that the Government has to prepare for.”
