Nirjala Ekadashi is one of the important festivals celebrated in the Indian Hindu calendar. This festival is observed on the eleventh day of the bright half of the Jyeshtha month. The term 'Nirjala' means 'without water' in Hindi. The main purpose of this festival is to attain the blessings of Lord Vishnu through devotion and sacrifice. People who observe this Ekadashi fast abstain from consuming water for a full day and night. It is believed that by observing this fast, all sins are washed away, and one attains good health and wealth.

Nirjala Ekadashi holds special significance as it is considered more auspicious compared to other Ekadashi dates. On this day, special prayers and rituals are performed to worship Lord Vishnu, and devotees offer flowers, lamps, and water to his feet. During the fast, people stay awake all night, engaging in devotional songs and hymns. It is customary to perform puja and offer prayers throughout the day.

The legend associated with Nirjala Ekadashi is related to the Pandavas, the protagonists of the epic Mahabharata. According to the legend, the eldest Pandava brother, Bhima, was unable to observe regular Ekadashi fasts due to his immense hunger and inability to fast without water. To fulfill his desire to observe Ekadashi, he approached the sage Vyasa, who advised him to observe Nirjala Ekadashi, which would provide the benefits of observing all Ekadashi fasts throughout the year.

Nirjala Ekadashi holds great spiritual significance and is believed to grant divine blessings, purification of the soul, and spiritual upliftment. Devotees consider it an opportunity to seek forgiveness for their sins, enhance their spiritual journey, and strengthen their devotion to Lord Vishnu. It is a day of fasting, prayer, and reflection, promoting self-discipline, purity, and devotion in the lives of devotees.
