Qantas is taking on the 'Transport Workers Union' in the High Court in Canberra. The airline is hoping to overturn a Federal Court ruling that the largest outsourcing decision in Australia’s history was illegal. Qantas announced 17-hundred baggage handling and cleaning jobs would go during the pandemic in late 2020, in what the company says was a commercial decision. The 'Transport Workers Union' says the real reason was Qantas wanted to thwart workers' rights in any future industrial action a move which is banned under the Fair Work Act.
