Russia's defence ministry claims to have hit the Bakhmut Central Command Unit of the Ukrainian military. Wagner mercenary Georgiy Siukayev has been accused of killing a man known as holy fool upon his return to Russia from the frontline. Russian President Putin said people in newly annexed Russian regions have fought for many years to be part of Russia.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Zelensky met NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg in Kyiv on April 20. Stoltenberg said "Ukraine's future is in the Euro-Atlantic family, Ukraine's future is in Nato, all allies agree on that”. South Korea said its decision on whether to send military aid to Kyiv depends on Russia's actions. A former deputy chief of defence staff has suggested that Britain must rethink where it lays sea cables amid the threat from Russia.
