Glasgow headlines 5 April: Council looking to make city centre motorways cleaner

2023-04-05 6

Glasgow City Council has passed a motion to introduce a 30 mph speed limit on a section of the M8, and is now working with the Scottish Government to implement it.

Part of the motorway that runs through the city has become subject to its low emission zone rules, with Green councillors arguing it stands in the way of creating healthy neighbourhoods.

Next up, Scotrail is planning to cut all nine of the ‘fast’ train services between Glasgow and Gourock later this year.

Train operator bosses said that due to the pandemic there is an insufficient number of new drivers meaning their means are limited until the training backlog is cleared.

They said that withdrawing these routes will help produce a more reliable service.

And in other news, Gregg’s have opened a new 24-hour store inside Glasgow International Airport, taking over the former Mozzo Cafe unit.

The bakery chain briefly operated in the airport in 2010, while this latest edition to the company has created 30 local jobs.
