US House Speaker Kevin McCarthy is set to speak with Taiwan’s president this week. It’s all part of a seemingly bipartisan endeavor to support the South Asian country, one Biden said back in September the US was prepared to defend Taiwan militarily if need be. The president has since backpedaled on that, but the country’s leadership have maintained close ties nonetheless. Now China has responded, saying their country “resolutely opposes” the meeting.
