London City Airport has introduced high-tech CT scanners at security, which means passengers will no longer be restricted to 100ml of liquids in their hand luggage.

The new machines, which take high-resolution 3D images of hand baggage and clothing, have been implemented from today, ahead of the UK government's June 2024 deadline for most airports to install them.

Teeside is also using similar technology, allowing passengers to keep liquids, electronics and other items in their hand luggage.

Since a 2006 terrorist threat, liquids have been limited to 100ml and had to be placed in clear plastic bags. However, the new CT scanners mean travellers can now carry up to two litres of liquid in their hand luggage without restriction.

The Transport Secretary, Mark Harper, announced in December that most major airports would roll out the technology this year.
