Martin Lewis has warned those with enough national insurance credits for the full state pension against topping up their years that are not full.
The MoneySavingExpert answered a question from a Good Morning Britain viewer who asked if it was a “good idea to top up” the years they are missing.
“Only if you like burning money,” Lewis said in response.
“You have a full state pension, topping up your national insurance years would not give you any more pension, so it would literally be throwing money away.”
He added, however, that there are “millions of people” who should be doing it.
