This is the moment excited penguins rush to waddle into their new and improved home.

Zookeepers at Odense Zoo in Denmark had to wrangle dozens of penguins and transport them in a buggy to their new home.

A video shows king penguins, gentoo penguins and northern rockhoppers making their way to their new home after one month spent in a temporary enclosure.

During the renovations, the zoo's 40 penguins lived in the quarantine stable, which had been modified to suit the penguins' needs with extra cooling and ice machines.

Danni Larsen, communications manager at Odense Zoo, said: "We have been renovating our penguin exhibit, making several improvements to the animal welfare and creating even better opportunities for breeding.

"The large pool in the penguin exhibit was drained, and a new rock formation was built on the bottom, giving the penguins a renewed experience when swimming.

"The rock formations surrounding the land part of the exhibit has also been reworked, giving the penguins new ways to move around.

"We've also established a small new beach in the enclosure, giving the large king penguins an easier way in and out of the pool."

The zoo also upgraded the lighting to mirror the light of sub-Antarctica, the floors and the roof.

The footage was filmed on February 13.
