A magnitude 7.9 earthquake struck central Turkey on February 06. It originated at a depth of 10 km, per the German Research Centre for Geosciences. Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority pegged the quake at 7.4 near the southern city of Kahramanmaras. According to images on TRT, there was damage to buildings and people were gathered out on snowy streets. The earthquake lasted about a minute and shattered windows, as per Reuters witness. The area is regularly hit by strong earthquakes.
| തുര്‍ക്കിയിലും അയല്‍രാജ്യമായ സിറിയയിലും ഉണ്ടായ ശക്തമായ ഭൂചലനത്തില്‍ മരണ സംഖ്യ ഉയരുന്നു. രണ്ടു രാജ്യങ്ങളിലുമായി നൂറോളം പേര്‍ മരിച്ചുവെന്നാണ് പുറത്തുവരുന്ന റിപ്പോര്‍ട്ടുകള്‍. റിക്ടര്‍ സ്‌കെയിലില്‍ 7.8 തീവ്രത രേഖപ്പെടുത്തിയ ഭൂചലനമാണ് തെക്ക് കിഴക്കന്‍ തുര്‍ക്കിയില്‍ അനുഭവപ്പെട്ടത്. പ്രാദേശിക സമയം പുലര്‍ച്ചെ 4.17ന് 17.9 കിലോമീറ്റര്‍ ആഴത്തിലാണ് ഭൂചലനം ഉണ്ടായത്. തെക്കുകിഴക്കന്‍ തുര്‍ക്കിയിലെ ഗാസിയാന്‍ടേപിന് സമീപത്താണ് ഭൂചലനം അനുഭവപ്പെട്ടത്.
