Interview of Lindsey Vonn with Ernst Hausleitner in ORF yesterday ©ORF
Translation:
Interviewer: It was a long dream of you to ski on the Streif and now you did it at night. How was it?
Lindsey: It was incredible. I was really nervous at the start and it was so dark. Daron helped me and motivated me. I think at the end I skied really well.
Interviewer: Yeah it looked great. Which passage did you like best or was the a passage which scared you? Where did you have the most respect?
Lindsey: I had lot of respect on the whole slope. For Hausberg to the finish was the coolest. You get so much speed on the last left turn to the finish. At start I had the most respect because it is so steep and you ski so fast in seconds. The jump was incredible to ski. It took some time to get my self confidence but at the end I skied well.
Interviewer: When you were still racing you said many times that you want to do a race on the Streif. Now after you skied it do you think that the women will race in Kitubühel?
Lindsey: I think with some more training runs the women could do it. Not when it is too icy. This Season it wasn’t as icy as normal. But I think I’m the only one who wanted to ski in Kitzbühel. I think the the other women don’t want it. But I’m a Downhiller and I always want to ski fast.
Interviewer: Some men think it is to much steep for the women. What would you say to them?
Lindsey: Everything is possible. When there is a chance maybe it will be possible. To say no woman can ski on it is not so cool. But I think when the women want it then there is maybe a possibility. Maybe with softer snow and lower jumps. It would be a big honour to have a race for the women.
Interviewer: It was also very emotional for you ski down the Streif. Why?
Lindsey: I didn’t know if at my age with my knees I’ll have enough power to ski down. I thought maybe my dream wouldn’t come true. I thought I will try it and hopefully I can do it. When I was in the finish I thought that I finally did it and my mom was in heaven watching over me that I’m healthy. I always skied with my heart. Wins great but for me the speed , adrenaline and challenge is for me the most important thing. I did it and that’s why it was emotional.
Interviewer: For us is Kitzbühel for this three days the center of the world. You came directly from the USA. How important is Kitzbühel in the USA?
Lindsey: At home skiing is unfortunately not so well known and at the moment it is difficult to watch the races on TV. For me Kitzbühel was always the main point. I hope that maybe this project brings more respect for Kitzbühel and the american Fans can see what goes on here.
Interviewer: Do you still like the hype we have here around skiing. It’s only a ski race.
Lindsey: Skiing is the best sport in the world. Downhill here in Kitzbühel is the coolest sport for me. It’s a the biggest event.
Interviewer: Thank you Lindsey. All the best for the future. Hopefully we’ll see you again in Kitzbühel.
