NBC reports that millions of people across
the United States are facing severe weather conditions
including thunderstorms, tornadoes and flash floods. .
A winter storm is expected to hit
the Midwest and a third storm has been
forecast to hit California later this week. .
At the same time, the Midwest,
the Southeast and the mid-Atlantic are
all experiencing record high temperatures.
On January 3, severe thunderstorms with winds over
111 miles per hour threatened as many as 20 million
people from southeast Louisiana to central Alabama.
The storms are expected to include
large hail and could generate
strong tornadoes. .
Areas facing a heightened risk
include New Orleans,
Montgomery and Gulfport. .
As of the morning of January 3, 24 million people
were under flood alerts in parts of the Southeast,
Tennessee and Mississippi river valleys. .
