This is the moment good samaritans help police officers rescue a 65-year-old cyclist trapped under a stolen car. Officers from the Watsonville Police Department in California were approaching a stolen vehicle when the suspect exited the driver's side and fled the scene. The moving stolen car then struck the 65-year-old man whilst he was cycling and pinned him under the vehicle. Video footage captured by a body-worn camera shows the police officers attempting to lift the car when multiple passersby run over to help. The group were eventually able to lift the car high enough to free the victim, saving the man’s life. Watsonville Police Department shared intense moments leading up to the rescue on their Facebook page. They reported that the suspect was chased down by officers and later taken to the Santa Cruz County Jail. One officer present at the scene, Cpl. Isaak Rodriguez, described that he believes the man may not have survived if it wasn’t for the civilians who helped. He said: “I was thinking that we had seconds because this individual is going to die if we don’t lift this car off of his chest. “Seconds mattered and he was gasping for air because he couldn’t breathe. “Knowing that there are still people out there that are willing to help out a stranger in a time of need, it’s one of the greatest feelings I ever felt.” One of the good samaritans, Marvin Luna, was on his lunch break when he ran over to help. He said: “Everything just happened so fast, the only thing I really wanted to do was help. “I came back to work and I told my co-workers ‘you’re not gonna believe it’. This was one of the craziest lunches I’ve ever had!” This incident occurred on 15/12.
