Prime minister Narendra Modi on 8th November 2016 announced the govt’s decision of demonetization. Between that day and today’s date 6 years have passed. And although the BJP claims demonetization was done to fight corruption and black money, it doesn’t tout it as a one of the prominent achievements or cite it in election manifestos. That’s something to ponder about.
However, today we are talking about the Central govt’s response to Supreme Court query. As you know the Supreme Court is currently hearing a petition challenging the move of demonetization. However, defending its decision to ban the currency notes of ₹500 and ₹1000, the govt told Supreme Court that the step was taken after extensive consultation with the Reserve Bank of India and advance preparations were made before the note ban was enforced.
But was it really so?
