Australia’s Immigration Minister Andrew Giles is reportedly going to overturn a 3-year ban on Novak Djokovic entering the country. Djokovic had to make a case to Giles for permission to enter Australia and the minister is expected to rule in his favor. The tennis star was deported earlier this year after he failed to get an exemption for a then-mandated COVID-19 vaccination. Djokovic believed he could enter the country as Tennis Australia and the Victorian state government granted him an exemption. He was given the exemption as he had caught COVID-19 a few weeks before his arrival. However, the Australian government said this wasn’t a valid exemption to the mandate so his visa was revoked. It’s unclear whether or not he will participate in the Australian Open but Tennis Australia CEO Craig Tiley is hopeful that he will.
