Kentucky Voters Reject , Constitutional Amendment on Abortion.
NPR reports that Amendment 2 was on the ballot for the midterm elections.
It would have added the following
language to the state's constitution:.
To protect human life, nothing in this constitution shall be construed to secure or protect a right to abortion or require the funding of abortion, Via Proposed Amendment to Kentucky's Constitution.
Kentucky voted "no" to
adopting the language. .
However, NPR reports that this doesn't necessarily mean abortion access is protected in Kentucky.
In August, the Kentucky Court of Appeals lifted an injunction on the state's "trigger law" that bans abortion after six weeks of pregnancy except for life-threatening circumstances.
The state's trigger law was set to go into effect when the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade.
The Kentucky Supreme Court has allowed abortion laws to remain in place amid legal proceedings.
Oral arguments to challenge
the laws will take place on Nov. 12
