The James Webb Telescope used an instrument that blocks out starlight, allowing it to capture just the interstellar dust that flows throughout the columns. The formation appears like a ghostly hand reaching into the depths of space 7,000 light years from Earth. This is the first time the world has witnessed how dense some areas of dust are in the Pillars of Creation, which formed more than five million years ago, which was typically seen surrounded by glowing stars.
