Rutschebanen is the last remaining coaster built by the L.A.Thompson Scenic Railway company. In case you didn't catch the name, LaMarcus A. Thompson is the guy who basically invented the modern roller coaster. He even got the patent.
One of the world's oldest wooden roller coasters. Originally built at the 1914 Baltic Fair, Ruthschebanen was later moved to Tivoli Gardens where it continues to operate. The name Ruthschebanen simply means Roller Coaster in Danish. Ruthschebanen is a genuine classic roller coaster, as it is one of only a few side friction scenic railways left. It's also noteworthy since it requires a brakeman to operate. Yes, there is a job that requires you to ride a roller coaster. The brakeman sits in a designated seat on the train and his job is to control the speed of the roller coaster, by slowing or stopping it. Since there is a brakeman, essentially no two rides would be alike.
