Recorded in 1970 by Mike Westbrook's Concert Band, "Love songs" presents a song cycle dedicated to the poems of Caroline Menis. As usual Mike Westbrook composes large orchestral suites, based on conceptual or literary contents very similar to the modus operandi of classical composers. In "Love songs" we have a mixture of instrumental tracks and some work featuring the highly distinctive vocals of UK singer Norma Winstone. The album is composed of a mix of melodic and whistful songs, backed by groovy beat with several hum-able tunes, funky rhythms and a wash of electric keyboards and guitars.
