The Works and Transport Minister has responded to the complaints from Caroni residents about the sluice gate and the pump they said had failed to prevent the flooding that occurred in their area.
He says garbage and debris get stuck under the sluice gate which prevents it from closing.
And what about the pump the residents referred to?
