Plot - In 1905 in the village of Anatevka, a typical shtetl in the Pale of Settlement in Ukraine, then part of the Russian Empire, a poor Jewish milkman, Tevye, is struggling to arrange the marriage of three of his five daughters. Tevye meets Perchik, a radical Marxist from Kiev, who admonishes those who speak and do nothing about the news of the Tsar banning Jews from their villages. Tevye invites Perchik to stay with his family, offering him room and board in exchange for his daughters' education...
Tevye and his family, persecuted for being Jews, are forced to emigrate to America.
