UK’s ‘levelling up’ policy at risk as economy weakens
When Britain left the European Union, politicians promised economic benefits for parts of the country which had previously fallen behind. Now preparing to step down as Prime Minister, Boris Johnson has pledged that ‘levelling up’ would see improved transport links and job prospects across areas such as the north of England. But with inflation at its highest level in decades and the so-called ‘Brexit dividend’ yet to materialize, residents of cities like Bradford are wondering if Johnson’s policy was any more than just a campaign slogan.
