Jal Saheli or "Friends of Water" is a group of around 1,000 women dedicated to rehabilitating drought-stricken villages in the Bundelkhand region of central India. Members have been building dams, ponds and embankments to collect and store monsoon rains, which account for about 75 per cent of the nation’s annual rainfall. Since its founding in 2005, the Jal Saheli initiative has helped 113 villages become water-sufficient.
