The Chief of the Santa Rosa First Peoples Community says this country's indigenous people should not be looked at as just another cultural group in the society .
Meanwhile, the Grand Chief of the Warao nation says there are more than 100,000 people who are descendants of that tribe alone, many of whom have no idea of their ancestry.
The issue was discussed during a Parliament committee's hearing on Friday.
