This year, we mark World Refugee Day with a sobering statistic: The number of forcibly displaced people globally has surpassed 100 million, or more than 1% of the world’s population. The theme of this year’s World Refugee Day is ‘the right to seek safety’ - and this includes safe passage through borders, not forcing anyone back if doing so would jeopardise their life or freedom, and non-discriminatory, humane treatment.
