With immediate effect, the RBI's Monetary Policy Committee hiked the policy repo rate by 50 basis points to 4.90 percent. "The MPC also agreed to maintain its focus on removing accommodation to ensure that inflation remains within the target going forward while boosting growth," the monetary policy statement added.
