By special request, I'm uploading this great song by Ted Lewis's band. Ted Lewis (né Theodore Leopold Friedman) was kind of a special case among the dance band leaders. He had no voice, but led one of the best of the commercial Dixieland bands. In 1916, as part of his comedy vaudeville act, he formed his very first (5 piece) band; 'Ted Lewis & His Nut Band'. In October 1919, Columbia Records signed Lewis and released his first single, "Wond'ring". It was the start for a very successful recording career. In 1930 he announced his retirement, but by request of Columbia, the next year his was back. Lewis continued touring and recording. In 1967, after a long career lasting no less than 50 years, he played his last show. As for this record, it was made in 1931. Vocal by Ted Lewis himself, also playing clarinet, alto saxophone and harmonica. Further personnel included: Fats Waller, Jack Aaronson and Ernie Cutting, piano; Harry Barth and Bob Escamilla, tuba; Jack Teagarden and Sam Blank, trombone; George Brunies, trombone and Kazoo; Vic Carpenter, banjo; Jimmy Dorsey, clarinet, baritone and alto saxophone; Tony Gerhardi, banjo and guitar; Benny Goodman and Stats Long, clarinet and alto saxophone; Mugsy Spanier, Dave Klein and Walter Kahn, cornet; John Lucas, drums; Sol Klein and Sam Shapiro, violin; Manny Klein, trumpet; Don Murray, clarinet and baritone, tenor and alto saxophone; Louis Martin, baritone saxophone; Harry Raderman and Dick Reynolds, trombone and bass saxophone; Frank Teschemacher, clarinet, as well as Hymie Wolfson, tenor saxophone.
