Devastating tornadoes were recorded in Oklahoma and Texas on Wednesday night, including this twister in Crowell, TX, near the states’ borders. Oklahoma’s Seminole County sustained ‘significant damage’ to homes, businesses, and power lines, according to state and federal officials.
No injuries or deaths have been reported in the immediate aftermath, but authorities are still working to assess how many people, if anyone, were displaced as a result of the storms.
NOAA data indicates that tornadoes have increased in recent decades in parts of the U.S. South and Midwest, in the area colloquially known as ‘Tornado Alley.’ The U.S. recorded 210 tornadoes in the month of March 2022 alone, the most ever for that month in history.
