As if keeping their residents safe were not difficult enough in the face of Russian shelling, officials in Kharkiv Oblast, Ukraine, are also attempting to relocate several large animals from a local zoo.
‘Transporting lions is not an easy task,’ said local politician Oleksandr Feldman. ‘Especially when animals have been under stress from shelling for more than a month and, in general, from the fact that their calm and measured life has changed dramatically.'
Though the animals have been evacuated safely, it is not immediately clear where their next permanent home will be. But the zoo says it has received several overtures from elsewhere in Ukraine, as well as from some international cities.
