According to the site Mr. Barry Skeete dedicated to his father, Charlie Skeete, was a world-class piano player in the 20's, and 30's. His first band were the Cosmopolitan Melody Boys. In the 1920's, his band was one of the first African-American bands to
have their own radio show. Charlie Skeete and His Orchestra was one of the
most popular and well-known bands in NYC. They were regular performers at the Cocoanut Grove, the Savoy and the Cotton Club. Due to heart problems, he gave up his orchestra in 1930 when it was taken over by
Claude Hopkins. This brilliant recording was made in 1926.
