The UK government has announced that Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe will return to the UK today to be reunited with his family.

Both Boris Johnson and Foreign Secretary Liz Truss said the Anglo-Iranian mother and compatriot Anushai Ashuri was on her way home.

"I am delighted to confirm that Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe and Anoosheh Ashoori will now be returned to the UK after their unfair detention in Iran ended today," the Prime Minister tweeted.

Foreign Secretary Liz Strath said the UK had settled a £40m debt owed to Iran.

Mrs Zaharie Ratcliffe's London MP Tulip Siddiq posted her first photo from the plane.

Iran in September 2016 sentenced Ms. Zaghari-Ratcliffe, a program manager at the news agency's nonprofit, the Thomson Foundation, to five years in prison after accusing her of "conspiring to overthrow the Iranian regime," a charge she has consistently said she has denied.

She started her ordeal after visiting the country in mid-March 2016 to celebrate Nowruz (New Year) with her family, but she was arrested at Imam Khomeini Airport on April 3 on her way home .

Mr Ashoori was arrested in Tehran in August 2017 and sentenced to 12 years in prison for his alleged links to Israeli intelligence agency Mossad, which he also denies.
