A deafening tower block alarm which has been ringing for almost a WEEK has left families fuming.
Children and parents have had sleepless nights and animals have been left anxious because of the noise which started last Tuesday (Feb 1).
Furious residents at Staner Court, a block of flats in Newington, Kent, have complained to the council about the never-ending sound which can be heard up to a mile away.
One local councillor has urged the local authority to fix the problem 'as a matter of urgency'.
A mum-of-two, 33, in a neighbouring block who did not want to be named said: “It has been going on since around midday on Tuesday and I sent a letter to the council on Wednesday but I have heard nothing back.
“It has not stopped and is deafening. The kids and I have had sleepless nights and some other children on the block have been crying their eyes out.
“We are trapped with something deafening in our ears.
“It has kept on going throughout the night and everyone is really annoyed with it.
“I am very frustrated because I have contacted the council so many times in the past and they have done nothing.
"This has happened before but it has only gone on for 24 hours at most, and they have not replied.
“Now they have not replied to me since Wednesday. I just need to get some sleep.
“I don’t know what alarm it is exactly- I think it is a fire alarm or a lift alarm- or why it is happening.
"My daughter gets the bus home from Ramsgate Railway Station and that is about a mile away and she can hear it.
"My ears are ringing when I’m not even near it and it has been going for a week now.
"I am right next to the block of flats.
"The animals are scared. I’ve got a cat that is scared to go out. We can’t sleep and it is causing a lot of disturbance."
Newington councillor Rick Everitt said: "I have not previously been made aware of this problem by residents but, now that I have been, I have raised it with officers to address as a matter of urgency.
"Clearly the situation as described is not acceptable."
Thanet District Council has been contacted for comment.
