Lata Mangeshkar's innings as a singer in the Indian film industry is the longest and topmost among her peers. Singing at Lata's level and singing for the same duration of time as Lata, hardly any other singer is lucky. But there are many such aspects of the life of Swarkokila Lata which most of us are unaware of. Renowned artist Tabassum told in a conversation with Aaj Tak that it is my luck that when Lata ji was debuting with her first Hindi song, the name of the film was Big Sister whose music was given by Husn Lal Bhagatram. The lyrics of the song were, stand up silently, there is definitely a thing, this is the first meeting, this is the first meeting. I remember very well that Shamshad Begum, Geeta Dutt and I were present during the recording of this song.
लता मंगेशकर की एक गायिका के रूप में भारतीय फिल्म जगत की पारी उनके समकक्षों में सबसे लंबी और अव्वल है. लता के स्तर का गायन और लता के बराबर समयावधि तक गायक शायद ही किसी और गायिका को नसीब हो. लेकिन स्वर कोकिला लता के जीवन के कई ऐसे पहलू भी हैं जिनसे हम में से अधिकतर लोग अनभिज्ञ हैं. जानी मानी कलाकार तबस्सुम ने आजतक से बातचीत में बताया कि ये मेरी खुशकिस्मती है कि जब लता जी अपने पहले हिंदी गाने से डेब्यू कर रही थीं, फिल्म का नाम था, बड़ी बहन जिसका म्यूजिक हुस्न लाल भगतराम ने दिया था. गाने के बोल थे चुप-चुप खड़े हो, जरूर कोई बात है, पहली मुलाकात है ये पहली मुलाकात है. मुझे अच्छी तरह याद है कि इस गाने की रिकॉर्डिंग के दौरान शमशाद बेगम, गीता दत्त और मैं मौजूद थीं.
