Established by great maestro and teacher Allauddin Khan in 1918 in Madhya Pradesh, India, the Maihar Band is now in its fourth generation of musicians. The music played by the Maihar Band, a blend of both Indian folk and Western Classical music, comprises mainly of the compositions of Baba or Khan Saheb himself. Apart from diverse musical instruments like sitars, tablas, cellos and clarinets, the band also plays musical instruments made for the band's use by Allauddin Khan from inexpensive or discarded materials like rejected gun barrels!!
