Schools in New Delhi are closing for a week from November 15, 2021, as the city battles a thick haze of toxic smog. The Air Quality Index in and around the city has hit 470-499 on a scale of 500. The thick smog has been exacerbated by a recent spike in crop-waste burning. The government has also ordered construction sites to shut for 4 days and is considering a ‘pollution lockdown’ to protect people as the smog worsens.
