Taiwan showed off its most advanced jet – the US-made F-16V – on November 18, 2021. A ceremony was held to commission the first squadron of the warplane. The deployment is part of the island’s plan to boost its defence against growing military threats from Beijing and rising tensions across the Taiwan Strait. Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen said the addition of the aircraft helps strengthen the island’s defence capability and its relationship with the United States.
