German Christmas markets hold their breath as covid cancellations loom
In Dresden, the fate of the 'Striezelmarkt', Germany's oldest Christmas market is being decided. The traders, whose stalls have almost all been set up, are nervously awaiting the authorities' decision: will the market go ahead in spite of ever increasing Covid-19 infection numbers? The event, which attracts more than three million visitors a year, accounts for more than 50% of their turnover.
