Soon after American popstar #Rihanna and Swedish climate activist #GretaThunberg tweeted in support of the Indian farmers protesting against the new agricultural laws, the Narendra Modi government slammed the celebrities and dismissed their comments. Thunberg had also posted a toolkit containing material to educate and mobilise people to support the protest. The Delhi police and members of the BJP seized on the toolkit, alleging that it was evidence of a “foreign conspiracy” by “pro-Khalistan” groups that were coordinating with the farmers to malign India’s image and unleash violence in the country.
Newslaundry went to #Singhu, the epicentre of the farmer protests along Delhi’s border, to ask the farmers what they feel about Rihanna and Thunberg's tweets, the toolkit and the allegation of “international conspiracy”.
