Approximately 61% of voters
said "Yes" to Proposal E.
Over 93,000 ballots were cast out
of the city's 502,000 registered voters.
Once the measure is approved, the city will decriminalize the personal possession and use of entheogenic plants and fungi by adults. .
According to 'Newsweek,' this also means that city police will consider entheogenic plants and fungi one of their , "lowest law enforcement priorities.".
The sale of entheogenic plants
and fungi in the city will still not be
decriminalized under the new measure.
The vote means Detroit joins several other
U.S. locations that have loosened restrictions
on certain psychoactive substances.
The changes come amid a so-called , "psychedelic renaissance.".
In 2019, Denver, Colorado, became
the first U.S. city to decriminalize personal
possession of magic mushrooms.
